Frequently Asked Questions
It is not possible for the police to attend all instances of youths congregating in the streets as that would take up all of our time. Therefore we have to prioritise the incidents.
The highest priority is when youths are actively committing crime. For example causing damage to property. In this instance the police will attend as soon as possible in order to investigate the crime and, where appropriate, to deal with the offenders.
If youths are not committing a crime, but are causing a nuisance of any other kind, if a police officer is available they will be despatched in order to speak to the youths and advise them about their behaviour. Northern Constabulary works closely with teenagers and local authorities in many schemes to try and include them in our community and actively deter anti social behaviour.
