Youth Activities Youth Diversion/Development
Youth offending is a subject that has a high profile in many areas. The small minority of youths who are responsible for offending are dealt with by various means, one of which is known as the Restorative Warning Process Over 60 Police officers have been trained by Northern Constabulary in delivering such warnings in line with national guidelines. For further information regarding any youth related issues please contact the Force Youth Development officer by email rosanna.macsween@northern.pnn.police.uk
The Force currently works in partnership with Grampian Police and the Armed Services on Operation Youth Advantage. Twilight Basketball
Twilight Basketball is a multi-agency initiative backed by Northern Constabulary and co-ordinated by Scottish Sports Futures with support from Basketball Scotland, Merkinch Partnership, Cashback for Communities and of course Scotland’s very own pro basketball team, the Scottish Rocks. Following a very successful first phase of the scheme, Phase 2 is set to launch on Saturday 12 December 2009 at Inverness Leisure Centre, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm featuring the Bellahouston Hustlers –v- Inverness Rocks. Sessions will then be every Friday night from 7.30pm to 9.30pm for all youngsters aged between 11 and 21 whatever their ability. Street Football
The aim of Street Football, apart from offering youngsters an opportunity to play sport, is social integration, non-formal education, sustainable crime reduction and health. The initiative is facilitated by Action for Children (formerly NCH). Professional football coaches from Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club help to run these events Badaguish Outdoor Centre
The Badaguish Outdoor Centre is a facility run in partnership between Northern Constabulary and the Highland Council, which offers young people a unique opportunity to socialise and engage in outdoor activities. Connecting Young Carers
Young carers are aged 5 - 18 and look after, or help to look after, someone who has a physical or mental illness, disability or impairment, drug or alcohol problem.
Northern Constabulary have been working with Connecting Young Carers to raise awareness about the issues and needs of young carers in Highland of which there are an estimated 5000.
Young carers and their families can contact Connecting Young Carers to find out if there are any groups meeting in their area or to receive information about their rights, grants for respite activities, other agencies who might be working with young carers and also any events being held for young carers in Highland. Contact Kirsteen on 01463 723562 or email youngcarers@hccf.org.uk
