Crime Trends
Badenoch, Strathspey and Nairn is an area rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. However, crime does exist and the area has seen problems relating to underage drinking, vandalism and general youth disorder, albeit on a much smaller scale than other similar – sized towns in Scotland.
The Area Command houses the main arterial routes (A9 and A96) from the south and east. Therefore resources are required to deal with road traffic collisions and speeding offences.
In tackling these issues, we are in continous contact with our partner agencies (housing, social work, education, youth leaders, roads authorities etc.) as our methods of policing are firmly based on community involvment.
Local officers maintain contact with off-licence premises to ensure alcohol is not being sold or supplied to youngsters, and this has a positive effect on reducing vandalism, graffitti and general anti-social behaviour from this section of the community.
Officers from both the Northern Safety Camera Partnership and Northern Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit help to supplement local officers in patrolling the roads to enforce the road traffic laws, but also to deter and detect speeding drivers. This visible presence also helps disrupt the supply of illegal drugs which are being brought into the area via the A9 and A96.
