Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Central Division

Central Division serves the communities of Ross & Cromarty, Lochaber, Skye & Lochalsh and the Western Isles. The Division is led by Superintendent John McDonald.

The Division's Area Commanders are Chief Inspector David Bushell (Lochaber, Lochalsh & Skye), Chief Inspector Gordon Macleod (Western Isles) and Chief Inspector Gus Macpherson (Ross & Cromarty), supported by their localised Inspector teams.

The Division operates using a single business management unit and provides set thresholds of policing capability including protective services, intelligence co-ordination and pro-active capabilities. These capabilities include:

  • Divisional Public Protection Unit (co-ordinating and catering for divisional requirements in respect of child protection, sex and violent offender management, domestic abuse, vulnerable adults and community safety policing initiatives and responses).
  • Divisional NIM (National Intelligence Model) Co-ordination Unit (co-ordinating intelligence briefing, management of crime, identification of crime patterns or trends, identification of investigative opportunities and analysis.
  • Divisional Proactive Unit (providing both uniform and plain clothes pro-active policing responses throughout the Division.
  • Divisional Business Management Unit (made up by Police staff who provide the full range of business support, services and co-ordination on behalf of the Division).
