Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Command Overview

The city of Inverness is the heart of the Area Command, providing 24-hour policing and supporting the local officers in the outlying villages. With an increasingly multi-cultural population approaching 80,000, the scale of demand against resource provides a constant challenge for the Area Command.

Inverness, being the Capital of the Highlands and Islands, attracts thousands of visitors every year. The Area Command boasts some of the most picturesque scenery in the Highlands, with Loch Ness being a major tourist attraction.

Since gaining city status Inverness has attracted a larger number of cultural and musical events, with the Rockness festival in Dores now one of the highlights of the summer festival scene.

The city is also home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle football club, which has attracted visiting supporters from across Scotland since the club was promoted to the Scottish Premier League.
