Command Overview
Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh Area Command stretches from Glencoe and Glen Etive, Mallaig and the Small Isles and on through Glen Shiel to Eilean Donan Castle, Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye.
The command headquarters, based in Fort William, covers an area which has well earned the reputation as "Outdoor Capital of the UK".
The Area Command covers an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometres and has a population of around 20,000. Three arterial routes run through the Area Command. One is the A82, which links Fort William and Glasgow to Inverness, the second is the A830 to Mallaig with the third being the A87 to the Isle of Skye and the Western Isles.
As well as outdoor pursuits such as mountaineering, hill walking and winter sports, Police are involved in a variety of events throughout the year.

For Lochaber officers regular annual events include the annual Six Day Motorbike Trials in May, the Ben Nevis Race in September and the Mountain Bike World Cup with officers in Skye dealing with Dram in the Park at Glenelg.
Such events attract a large influx of visitors to the area and policing is provided commensurate to the occasion.
