Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Crime Trends

As with other similar communities, Orkney Area Command has experienced problems with underage drinking, vandalism, anti-social behaviour, drink driving and speeding.

A problem solving approach to policing is taken, allowing officers to target specific offences and the introduction of town centre CCTV in Kirkwall is proving useful.

Patrolling officers bring the subject of speeding to the forefront with regular attention paid to this issue. National campaigns are also supported and are always highly publicised.

Mobile patrols focus on drink drivers, with attention being paid to the town centre, but equally to the more rural areas of Orkney and indeed the outer isles.

Officers in Orkney continue to work with our community, providing a community policing style that is vigilant and visible throughout our area.
