Area Command Headquarters is in Shetland's capital, Lerwick, which serves a population of around 8,000.  On Shetland's mainland there are single officer stations at Dunrossness and Scalloway as well as a section station at Brae.

The islands of Yell, Whalsay and Unst are all served by their own single officer station.

The island's economy is mainly supported by the buoyant oil industry, agriculture and tourism.
