Sun, 21 Feb 2010 5:42:24 GMT

During Saturday, 20 February 2010, three mountain incidents occurred within the Badenoch area of Northern Constabulary.

* About 1705 hours, a 999 call was received from 2 male persons who had been walking in the mountain area of Meall Fionail, in the Kingussie area and had become disorientated after taking a wrong turning. At 1905 hours, these persons - both aged 33 years and from the Glasgow area - were traced and taken from the area by R137 - the RAF Kinloss helicopter. Neither person required medical attention. (NM/1857/10)

* About 1910 hours, a 999 call alerted Northern Constabulary to 3 climbers from Essex who were having extreme difficulties in coping with a climb at The Vent in the Cairngorm mountains area, near Aviemore. R137, having just dealt with the above incident, responded and at 2045 hours, these 3 persons - the males aged 51 and 19 years and the female aged 34 years - were traced and winched to safety. Although suffering from the cold, none required hospital treatment. (NM/1862/10)

* About 2100 hours, information was received via Grampian Police that a male person had fallen approximately 50-70 metres whilst climbing The Crags near to the Shelter Stone in the Cairngorm mountains. R137 again responded and the 25 year old male was airlifted and taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, where he is detained with serious leg and spinal injuries. (NM/1870/10)

All of these operations also involved members of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.
