PRESS RELEASE

UPDATE MURDER - ALISTAIR WILSON - NAIRN

Detectives investigating the murder of 30-year-old father of two Alistair Wilson revealed today that crime fighting charity Crimestoppers has offered a reward of up to £10,000 for anyone who can provide vital information which would lead to the arrest, charge and court disposal of his killer.

The news comes after day eight of the inquiry into the murder of the Nairn business banker, who was gunned down on his doorstep on Sunday 28th November, 2004.

The reward is the highest which can be offered by the charity in Scotland and it is hoped that it may encourage someone who may possess vital information about Alistair’s killer to come forward.

The inquiry team will today continue the task of sifting through information gathered during yesterday’s large Police operation in Nairn. Officers set up road blocks and interviewed every vehicle which passed through Nairn betweeen 6pm and 8.30pm.

DCI Mac Phee said " We stopped between 600 - 700 vehicles last night and from those inquiries we managed to glean some useful information. "

In relation to the news of the reward offered by Crimestoppers DCI Peter MacPhee said: We are obviously delighted to hear that the charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of this size.

If there is someone out there who has vital information which could help us trace Mr Wilson’s killer then this reward may tempt them to come forward.

The reward would be offered to the person or persons who provide information which ultimately leads to the arrest and charge of the killer and the subsequent conclusion of the case.

He added: We are delighted with the response from the local community and I would urge anyone who has not come forward with information yet, to do as as soon as possible.

DCI MacPhee can also reveal that he and the Area Procurator will be meeting with representatives from TV’s Crimewatch programme today to discuss preliminary filming for the show.

Filming is expected to conclude this week and the appeal is expected to go out on the show on December 14.

DCI MacPhee added: Things seem to be progressing well with regards to Crimewatch and we are discussing the finer details of the appeal’s content with the producers and the Procurator Fiscal.

Obviously Crimewatch has the potential to reach a large number of people across the UK and we are hopeful that someone may see the show and call in with vital information.

DCI MacPhee has now all but ruled out the reports that suggested the killer possibly escaped on a speedboat.

Anyone with information relating to the case is aksed to contact the incident room at Nairn Police Station on Tel :01667 452222, or anonymously to Crimestoppers 24/7 on 0800 555 111.
