E-Crime Unit

Northern Constabulary recognises the requirement to provide a professional in-Force examination of all computer equipment seized as part of a criminal enquiry where the data contained therein is relevant to the investigation.

To fulfill this requirement staff have been trained in the use of computer hardware and forensic software.

Computer Forensics

The now-widespread use of computers and computer technology, together with increased use of the internet, has presented an enormous opportunity for committing criminal activity to such an extent that computers and their technology are present in some form in almost every investigation undertaken by the Force.

These can range from complex corporate networks to mobile phones and PDA's. The E-Crime Unit has responsibility for the forensic examination of electronic storage devices linked to hi-tech crime.
