Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Project Argus

Information

What is Project Argus?

Project Argus is a three hour event with a multi-media presentation of a simulated terrorist attack. A series of questions and dilemmas will be posed for participants to resolve in syndicates.

Who developed Project Argus?

Project Argus was developed by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO). NaCTSO is a Police unit working to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and provides a co-ordinating role for the Police service in regard to protective security.

NaCTSO is located within the Security Service (MI5) and collates and disseminates good practice. It also has responsibility for the management of Police training in protective security through its national network of Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSA).

Developing and maintaining strong links with other organisations is a vital part of the unit's work. This allows for the identification of emerging needs and requirements in this area.

Who should attend Project Argus?

Project Argus is aimed at managers and assistant managers in businesses located within crowded places in urban settings. Whether in retail or office based environments, Project Argus can offer benefits in terms of raising awareness about the threat from terrorism and provides practical advice on preventing, handling and recovering from an attack.

How many people can attend a Project Argus event?

The ideal number of attendees for each event is approximately 60 people, but we can cater for between 40 and 100 people with attendees sitting at syndicate tables.

How long does it last?

Project Argus events have been designed to run for three hours, which includes a coffee break. This is important because it allows attendees to schedule their day accordingly, knowing that the event will finish on time. A buffet lunch will be provided at the end of the event for those who wish to stay and network with other delegates and organisers.

How much will it cost me?

Each Project Argus event is provided to you free of charge.

Who will run the event?

Project Argus events in Northern Constabulary area will be facilitated by Counter Terrorism Security Advisors from Northern Constabulary .

Who will answer my technical questions?

The event will have an expert group available to answer queries on the response of the emergency services, counter terrorism security measures and business continuity.

How can I attend an event in my area?
