Public Protection Policy & Support Department
(including Offender Management Unit)

The Force's Public Protection Policy & Support Department and Offender Management Unit is staffed by experienced Police Officers who are all Detective Constables and Police Staff, who are managed by two Detective Sergeants and a Detective Inspector.

The Headquarters Public Protection Policy & Support Department and Offender Management Unit is responsible for disseminating all new policies and procedures in respect of the key business areas of Public Protection, namely:

  • Adult Support & Protection
  • Child Protection
  • Community Disclosure (Keeping Children Safe)
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Offender Management
  • Sexual Crime

It is also responsible for the delivery of all internal training in respect of these business areas, and the delivery of multi agency training working in partnership with the other Lead Professionals. It assists throughout the whole Force area with advice and assistance in any matters in respect of Public Protection and Offender Management. In order to maintain the Force’s participation and inclusion in Scottish Government and Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS) led business the department attends a number of ACPOS working groups and multi agency meetings at Strategic, Delivery and Working group levels.

The Offender Management Unit is further responsible for the Force’s management of all Registered and Non-Registered Sex Offenders and acts as the Force Registrar in this respect.

As experience Detectives the officers from Public Protection Policy & Support Department may also take part in other major incident investigations depending on resources available, whilst retaining Policy, Support and training as their primary objective.
