Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Road Policing

Operational Support’s Road Policing Section works closely with all Divisions in supporting road safety and frontline policing.

A total of 24 officers and two support staff work within the section which is headed up by an Inspector. There are various facets within the Road Policing Section including collision investigation.

ARV in the snow

There are six collision investigators who investigate a number of serious and fatal road collisions every year, each being plotted at the scene and calculations carried out at Road Policing's base in Dingwall to determine the speeds and actions of the vehicles prior to collision.

Road Policing Officer on duty

Road Policing officers also take part in various inter-agency campaigns throughout the year to promote safety on our roads. The annual Motorcycle Safety Seminar has been extremely popular and gives Police, the Fire Service and Ambulance Service the opportunity to share useful road safety information with motorcycle users and retailers.
