Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Policing Plan

Inverness, whilst distinct in its Highland character, has the same range of issues to cope with as other Scottish cities. However, the Force’s community policing style is the major contributor to a detection rate for crime which consistently makes Northern Constabulary the envy of many other UK Police Forces.

Our ongoing challenge is to maintain the maximum numbers of police officers at a time when a significant number across Scotland will be approaching retirement age.

The Area Command Policing Plan mirrors the Force strategic priorities. These are;

  • To provide safer roads with reduced deaths, injury and crime
  • Sustainable crime reduction
  • Effective engagement of criminality
  • Public reassurance in community safety
