Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Welcome to Lochaber, Skye & Lochalsh Area Command

Lochaber is known as one of the "Gateways to the Highlands and Islands." The area has a wide variety of landscapes, from the wild moors of Glencoe, with its well-tread mountains climbing high, to the UK's highest peak Ben Nevis. To the west we have Mallaig and Ardnamurchan which are where the journey to the islands begins.

With tourism serving as one of the main factors in Lochaber's economy, the area has a reputation as an ideal location for sports and outdoor events and activities. In peak tourist periods the local population can more than double with visitors to the area.

Lochaber, Skye & Lochalsh Area Command deals with numerous mountain and road incidents, due to the ever increasing numbers of tourists taking advantage of its reputation as the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK'. Lochaber continues to be one of the safest places to live and work.
