Policing the Communities of the Highlands and Islands

Policing Plan

The main causes of concern for our area command are; high level of road accident casualties, drug trafficking and abuse, and violent crime.

Increased high profile anti-crime patrols will focus upon irresponsible driver behaviour. Drug trafficking and abuse is proving to be a contributory factor in the commission of many crimes. Crimes of violence will continue to be the focus of our attention together with the underlying causes; primarily alcohol, drugs and other social factors.

We will build upon our successes through Alcohol Byelaws, improved CCTV systems and Community Beat Policing. We will ensure that anti-social behaviour initiatives are carried out as part of our community policing.

The Area Command's policing policy mirrors the Force's main objectives, which are;

  • To provide safer roads with reduced deaths, injury and crime
  • Sustainable crime reduction
  • Effective engagement of criminality
  • Public reassurance in community safety
